
The Seven Holy
Virtues
- Faith
– 1 – fidelity to one's promises. 2 – sincerity of intentions. 3 –
belief and trust in and loyalty to God. 4 – belief in the traditional
doctrines of a religion. 5 – firm belief in something for which there is no
proof. 6 – complete trust. 7 – something that is believed especially with
strong conviction; especially: a system of religious beliefs.
- Hope
– 1 – to desire with expectation of obtainment. 2 – to expect with
confidence.
- Charity
– 1 – benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity. 2 – generosity and
helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering; also: aid given to those
in need. 3 – lenient judgment of others.
- Prudence
–
1 – the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason. 2 –
skill and good judgment in the use of resources. 3 – caution or
circumspection as to danger or risk.
- Justice
–
1 – the quality of being just, impartial, or fair. 2 – the principle or
ideal of just dealing or right action. 3 – conformity to this principle or
ideal. 4 – the quality of conforming to law. 5 – conformity to truth,
fact, or reason.
- Temperance
– 1 – moderation in action, thought, or feeling : RESTRAINT. 2 –
habitual moderation in the indulgence of the appetites or passions. 3 –
moderation in or abstinence from the use of intoxicating drink.
- Fortitude
– 1 – strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear
pain or adversity with courage. 2 – STRENGTH.
The Seven Deadly Sins
- Lust
– 1 – personal inclination, WISH. 2 – usually intense or unbridled
sexual desire, LASCIVIOUSNESS. 3 – an intense longing, CRAVING, ENTHUSIASM,
EAGERNESS
- Envy
–
1 – painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined
with a desire to possess the same advantage, MALICE. 2 – an object of
envious notice or feeling.
- Sloth
– 1 – disinclination to action or labor, INDOLENCE. 2 – spiritual apathy
and inactivity.
- Pride
– 1 – the quality or state of being proud, as a inordinate self-esteem,
CONCEIT. 2 – a reasonable or justifiable self-respect . 3 – delight or
elation arising from some act, possession, or relationship.
- Avarice
–
excessive or insatiable desire for wealth or gain, GREEDINESS.
- Gluttony
– 1 – excess in eating or drinking. 2 – greedy or excessive indulgence
- Anger
– 1 – a strong feeling of displeasure and usually of antagonism, RAGE.
