Public School Coaching Highlights:
Number One: in 1982 the Greenwood High School (Arkansas) Lady Bulldog Track Team won the Arkansas State AAA track championship in Hot Springs at Lakeside High School. Winning the state title was especially rewarding in that Greenwood High School (my alma mater) has won 18 state championships during the course of its existence and the 1982 track girls won the second such title. The school's first state title came in 1966 when legendary coach Grady Robinson's GHS baseball team won the championship. Obviously, this was the first ever girls' state championship for GHS. As their coach, I feel that I "encouraged" more than "coached." The girls were fabulous! Number Two: in 1977 the boys basketball team in Dubois, Wyoming (the Rams) finished the season with a 22-4 win/loss record and was ranked in the top spot in Class B for most of 1976-77. An interesting comment on the season: we played Meeteetse High School three times. The first game (a loss) took 5 overtimes, the second game (a win) went into one overtime, and the third game (a win), was played in the regional tournament and took 3 overtimes! These boys were wonderful young men and, again, I encouraged more than coached. Number Three: from 1982 through 1986, the junior girls track team at Greenwood Junior High School was District 4AAA Champions. As coach, I encouraged the girls to learn about themselves through athletic competition, to improve in their chosen event, and to have fun. I feel those objectives were met, year after year. The purpose in life we all construct or discover for ourselves provides us with the very spice of life. My interest focuses around building and maintaining a meaningful life for me and family. Happiness is a by-product of engaging in life and living an authentic existence, one filled with meaning and purpose. By "following one's bliss," one finds, creates, or discovers personal meaning in life. Read Joseph Campbell's works on The Power of Myth.

Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation Frequent acts of smiling An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than to make them happen An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it. ...Anonymous Return to Pete's Homepage
